Anita Bryant and the Bloomsburg Fair
The Pennsylvania Rural Gay Caucus was actively involved in protests against Anita Bryant. Bryant, who was an American singer and anti-gay activist, led a campaign in 1977 called "Save Our Children," in which she advocated for the repeal of an ordinance instituted in Florida which restricted discrimination against one's sexual orientation. |

To protest the performance of Anita Bryant at the Bloomsburg Fair, Dan Maneval discussed his involvement in a rally sponsored by members of his organization along with chapters of N.O.W. in Williamsport. They scheduled speakers and led a march to and around the fairgrounds. Maneval described his experience as one of the televised speakers at this rally, and the subsequent discrimination he faced by his neighbors who eventually forced him to move out of his family home.
